I thought This Day Would Never Come
Joshua 2:1
And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot's house, named Rahab, and lodged there.Do you ever think that Rahab thought to herself that morning. Today is the day my life is going to change. Something is going to get me out of this life of prostitution. Someone is going to come and rescue me from this life style. Day in and day out she slept with men constantly giving her body away. Until the day came where two spies came into her house who would change her life forever!
Hosea 1:2-3
2 The beginning of the word of the Lord by Hosea. And the Lord said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the Lord. 3 So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim; which conceived, and bare him a son.
I wonder what went through Gomers head as this man Hosea decides he wants to marry her and love her. After everything she had been through in life. Why would this man choose someone like me. I don't think that at the time she understood what Hosea was doing because she went back to playing the harlot! We often as people who prostitute don't realize what we have infront of us because we are so use to the same thing. Gomer didn't care that she had a husband because she went back to selling herself. She didn't understand that Hosea was her way out. Her way of escape. Thats how it is with God we often don't realize Jesus is our way out our way of escape so we keep living in sin!
I Will Wait For You!
Joshua 2:21
And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.
It seemed as if Rahab the harlot was waiting on her rescuers. Who wouldn't wait when you been waiting for a long time to escape your lifestyle. You just need someone to come to your rescue. Finally help was here! They had made her a promise that they would be back. That they would come for her. She was ready. Yet all they had to do was keep their word. Have you ever been so ready for something to happen in your life your just waiting for someone else! They are the key to your freedom! She reminds me of a Damsel locked in a high tower waiting for her prince to come. She can't get set free until he comes to save the day! The thing about Rahab was she was a prostitute. Rahab never thought she would have to wait for a man to set her free out from her circumstance. She was stuck behind a wall. Yet they said that they would rescue her. So she sat there waiting for them with just a word of them saying they would return.
Acts 1:10-11
10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
Jesus was departing up into heaven. The disciples sat there and just watched heaven. They watched for his return. Yet the angels of the Lord had to come and tell them that just has they had watched Jesus leave he shall return. They were to get ready for the bridegrooms return! Not just stand their but prepare for the bridegroom!
Don't give up!
Joshua 6:22-23
22 But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country, Go into the harlot's house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her.
23 And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; and they brought out all her kindred, and left them without the camp of Israel.
Don't give up no matter how long you have to wait! Rahab never took the scarlet line out her window. She was awaiting her rescuers knowing that someday no matter what they said they will return then they will return. She wasnt going to give up she had came to far to believe that she wouldn't get out of this lifestyle. We often tend to give up right before the end. Right when our way of escape comes. Not Rahab she waited and finally her rescuers returned! Just like oneday Jesus will come back for his bride!
Hosea 3:1-3
1 Then said the Lord unto me, Go yet, love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an adulteress, according to the love of the Lord toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and love flagons of wine.
2 So I bought her to me for fifteen pieces of silver, and for an homer of barley, and an half homer of barley:3 And I said unto her, Thou shalt abide for me many days; thou shalt not play the harlot, and thou shalt not be for another man: so will I also be for thee.
Hosea came back for his bride! He paid the price for her. Just like Christ paid the price for us! He refused not to go back for her when the Lord said love her again. He went to go save her out of slavery! Save her out of the place she was in! She would no longer play the harlot and neither would Rahab. There was life after prostitution and they would be able to not just live day in and day out doing the same thing but live lives out side of their old lifestyles. To live a life after prostitution!
Life After Prostitution!
Ruth 4:21
And Salmon begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed,
And Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David.
Salmon had Boaz! Boaz is Rahabs son! She had a life after prostitution. I always wondered how someone could love a prostitute. Yet someone did. It didn't say the process that God had to bring her through to get her healed. Yet she was healed. I know that when you give your body away it is hard to want to except love. We get so use to just being our bodies. Yet we are not just our bodies. We are human beings who need love. We are not just thirsty but we are people who need love. The world skips over us because we are known to be less then the rest the lows of the lows. Yet there is life after prostitution. Life after that place that has left you numb, left you feeling worthless, left you on drugs, all alone. Rahab had Boaz and after that came another generation and another. David who killed Goliath came from a prostitute named Rahab who had a son name Boaz, who had a son named Jesse, who had a son named David. David came out of the line of Jesus. Yet there is still hope! Never feel like there is not hope just because of where you have been there is life after!
